Rehabilitation of contracted hooves 14 years old gelding of Czech warmblood

9 January 20254 August 2026

Breed: Czech warmblood gelding

Age: 16 years

Husbandary practise: with the previous owner he lived on pasture and was only used for riding for a few months for filming a film and then returned to pasture. He had classic metal horseshoes, always for the season, in winter he was without horseshoes. He was also shod in the classic way, with a cut point. When the current owners bought him 4 years ago, they rode a “classic” riding style and fed him ordinary granules. He was shod, due to the terrain, permanently, by the same farrier as with the original owner. A year and a half ago, the current owners changed the stable, riding style (they work according to trainer Petra Beránková, which is very relaxed and about a gentle and soft contact) and stopped shoding at the same time. During the photo documentation, the gelding was trimeed every 4 weeks using the P3Trim method and the horse is happy and comfortable even without horseshoes. For about two and a half years, the horse has been fed muesli from Fitmin, for 3 years vitamins (Reformin) from Höveler and chopped straw for about a year. As for health, he only has mild arthrosis in his hocks, corresponding to his age.

Hoof condition as of September 25, 2021: hoof horn was of poor quality, hoof capsules on the front hooves were tight, deformed with a flat sole. The hind hooves had under developed and slightly contracted heels.
