Hoof wall crack rehabilitation

19 January 20266 August 2026

Breed: Lusitano x Quarter horse gelding

Age: 10 years

Trim: originaly 8 week cycle by a farrier – crack appeared. Rehab with help of P3Trim every 4 weeks. It took 14 months for the crack to grow out.

Farrier´s attempts to get rid off the crack
11/2023 – 1/2025
11/2023 – 1/2025

The crack was probably very deep and that is why it took so long to get rid of it. There was no funghi or bacterial infection present – checked by the vet with help of a sample of the tissue. As you can see from the anatomical image of Lindsey Field, cracks can be like an iceberg. Small hole or just a thin crack at the bottom but large cavity beneath the hoof wall: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1151322003662965&set=pb.100063555284147.-2207520000&type=3
